Computer Courses “Reassuringly Expensive?
Funny lady Linda Smith used to say, “I love Waitrose – it’s that little bit more expensive.
It’s a funny old world, but until the recent credit crunch, everyone it seems believed the view that “Expensive equals quality, or You get what you pay for. The media re-enforced the view – think of the juicy Marks & Spencer adverts, with “This is not ordinary food, this is…. At the other extreme, the stores cheap ranges were acknowledged by spendthrifts but most of us didn’t give a second glance.
In IT training, expensive companies (aren’t they superior - if you can afford it - why else would so many people use them?) convinced us that there are IT trainers around who’ll teach IT for less but be warned, it won’t be as good.
Then lo and behold, the economic future is uncertain, and all of a sudden value is all the rage! Middle class mummies abandon Waitrose, and instead discover the delights of Aldi and Lidl. City bankers and their fat profits are frowned upon, and we all look more closely at who we’re buying from.
Maybe we’ve been taken in by paying higher prices? Further investigation into the country’s IT training market, and there’s a lot to discover. Just because industry’s crying out for greater numbers of skilled IT professionals, is it essential to fork out 5k–8k to be trained in these skills, or are we just paying to prop up dinosaurs? It’s a bit rich that many IT trainers are behind the times - supplying students with pen and paper methods. Should we really have to read through books when all information can be downloaded and watched on computers? Is it necessary to drive to training centres, forking out for our accommodation to support their overheads? Round the clock Interactive support should be available for me just that – at my convenience, but not at my cost.
With more comprehensive, user friendly training options on offer at a fraction of the cost of these prices, maybe it’s time we woke up to the fact that in terms of electronic learning, value is great quality and great price. A new order is asserting itself in IT training – in marketing terminology, it’s slashed prices for best ever products. In this changing world we’re living in, that’s welcome news.
